Earlier
in the summer of 2005, a few of us from the Rocky Mountain Books WebForum were
asked to contribute photos for a new book called A Hiker's Guide To
Scrambling Safely written by Tom Morin. An official book launch
party was held at Kilkenny Irish Pub in Calgary, Alberta on 18 October
2005. Rocky Mountain Books provided free appetizers and beer while
Tom was extremely generous in picking up the tab for dinner.For me, it was a pleasure to meet Tom and his wife, Joanna Walewski. Both are accomplished climbers and very pleasant to chat with. I was also thrilled to finally meet the legendary publishers, Tony and Gillean Daffern, whose books on outdoor pursuits have greatly influenced my life. Most of all, I enjoyed chewing the fat with many of my fellow cohorts from the WebForum including Linda Breton, Bill Kerr, Dinah Kruze, Eric Magno, Andrew Nugara, Bob Spirko, and Dave Stephens. Also joining us for the party were Dan Millar, Tina Stephens, and last but not least, Kelly Wood.
