BOU AVENUE
Ptarmigan Cirque

On 9 September 2023, Zosia Zgolak and I were invited, along with many others, by Kerry Vizbar to join him and his daughter, Elinka, for a hike to Ptarmigan Cirque in Alberta's Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.  Kerry planned this hike in honour of his wife, Blanka Cabicarova Vizbar, who after a lengthy illness passed away earlier this year.  Although there had already been an indoor memorial for her held in April, this hike was a chance for her friends to say goodbye in a spectacular setting that exemplifies Blanka's spirit and her zeal for outdoor adventure.  Thank you, Kerry, for organizing and sharing this deeply meaningful and personal event with the rest of us.

Where is everybody?

Here is a view of Ptarmigan Cirque (right) from near Highwood Pass.

The most dangerous part of the hike is right here! Zosia and a couple other guests start up the trail after crossing the highway.  Highwood Ridge dominates the background.
Tempting to keep going on such a nice day...

A huge cairn marks the end of the line for most people hiking into Ptarmigan Cirque, but scramblers can carry on further to climb Mount Rae.

Thank you to all who came out!

Here is a group photo of most of the friends that Kerry invited for this hike in honour of his late wife, Blanka Cabicarova Vizbar.

Tak čau, Blanka!

Zosia and Sonny proceed to exit Ptarmigan Cirque and say goodbye to Blanka.
