BOU AVENUE
Galveston Island State Park

Zosia Zgolak and I kicked off our Spring Break vacation on 29 March 2024 by flying to Houston, Texas and then driving to Galveston Island State Park on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.  The park is comprised of two separate sections--a campground near the beach and an inland marsh with a network of easy trails.  After stopping at the park's headquarters to pick up a Texas State Parks (annual) Pass ($70 USD), we briefly visited the beach before heading to the marsh for a short walk.  We were hoping to possibly see alligators but had no such luck.  Instead, we had to settle for just watching the sunset before leaving the park to camp elsewhere for the night.
Nicer than the Salton Sea! Zosia checks out the beach along the Gulf of Mexico.
I think these are laughing gulls--they look just like Franklin gulls.

A flock of laughing gulls wait for something good to eat to wash ashore.

Great photo by Zosia! This seashell has a remarkable pattern.

No such luck on this night. Zosia hopes to see an alligator in the park.
Watch for little bunnies around here!

An observation deck in the marsh is a fine place to watch the sunset.

End of a long day for us after getting up at 4 AM to catch our flight!

The sun sets on Galveston Island.

We saw a lot of jumping fish here! Convenient boardwalks make exploration of the marsh easy.
Now to find a place to sleep... Here is one last view of the sky at dusk over Galveston Island State Park.
